Using the Tongue Wisely

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
— Proverbs 18:21 NLT

The words we speak have immense power. The tongue, though small in size, possesses the ability to bring either death or life. It is a double-edged weapon that can either build up or tear down. Those who have a penchant for idle chatter and love to speak without thinking will someday reap the consequences of their words. Every word that escapes our lips carries weight and impact. Therefore, let us choose our words wisely, for what we sow with the tongue, we shall surely reap. Through intentional and thoughtful speech, we can sow seeds of life and blessings into the lives of others, fostering positive and meaningful relationships.

The previous verse talks about the importance of wise words. They are indeed rare, especially when you're trying to be clever. The tongue literally has the power to build up or destroy and should never be allowed to run unchecked. I did that recently and unintentionally hurt someone I care about. All I can say now is that I'm sorry and try and repair the damage. Truly, be quick to listen and slow to speak. If your tongue needs that much exercise, do what we are encouraged to do: pray without ceasing. Disengage that clever mind from your tongue and let the Holy Spirit use it to build you up and take care of circumstances beyond your knowledge as you pray in unknown tongues.
