Equipped by His Word
The words of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 remind us of just how important a role Scripture has in our lives as followers of Christ. All Scripture is divinely inspired, bearing the imprint of God Himself, and serves a vital purpose. It acts as a spiritual compass, guiding us towards truth by showing us what is right and exposing what is wrong in our lives. When we mess up, Scripture gently corrects us, steering us back onto the right path. Moreover, it serves as a comprehensive manual, teaching us how to live righteous lives in accordance with God's will. Through Scripture, God equips and prepares His people, nurturing our hearts and minds, so that we may be fully capable of carrying out every good work He has entrusted to us. As we immerse ourselves in the study and application of Scripture, we can be confident that God's transformative power will shape us into vessels of His love and instruments of His divine purpose.
I find such irony in Paul's words to Timothy. At the time that he wrote this letter, the Scriptures that he refers to are the books of the Old Testament. Yet, here we are reading his letters as Scripture, divinely inspired by God. I am so thankful to the Lord for ensuring that we were provided with instructions on how to live our lives today as blood-bought children of God. I'd like to remind you that the authors of Scripture lived and learned about what they wrote through their relationship with the Lord. They did not have a complete Bible at their fingertips. We are singularly blessed to have the Word of God readily available to us and the Spirit of God dwelling within us. Don't be satisfied with walking in ignorance, study the Word for yourself and let the Holy Spirit guide you and open up your understanding so that you will be equipped for every good work.
